Straight and Narrow has been providing help and creating hope for people in recovery for nearly 70 years.
Recently, a friend, Anne Howard sent us the photos below. Her husband, Dennis, was a photographer. He visited and photographed Straight and Narrow in 1960. At this time, the pioneer program offered services for "male alchoholics."
Dennis at the time was a lay associate editor of the Sign Magazine, as such he did many photo essay articles on local Catholic-angled stories. One of them was a profile of Msgr. Wall. Photos from Dennis are below, only some used in the article.
We thank Anne for thinking of us and helping preserve our history. We also thank the late, Dennis Howard for his support so many years ago. His obituary can be read here: Dennis Howard Obituary
The faces of those we serve have changed, and the scope of our ministry widened; but mission of Catholic Charities remains the same: to provide help and create hope for those most in need!
Straight and Narrow's Founder, Monsignor William Wall. Msgr. Wall started Straight and Narrow in 1954.
