On November, 10, 2018, two groups of volunteers gathered at the Father English Community Center of Catholic Family and Community Services in Paterson. Five members from the Young Adults from St. Paul inside the Walls, Madison, NJ and five students from Montclair State University worked with Sister Maureen Sullivan, SC, Director of Volunteers and Agnes Zsiros, an intern from Passaic County Community College.
Despite the cold and wind, they were able lay the foundation for a new perennial/pollinator garden for El Mundo Del Nino Early Childhood Program. Before laying the mesh which will be covered with wood chips, the volunteers cleared the grounds for the garden located next to the Father English Community Center. They prepared the grounds for the daffodils and other plants which the students will plant this fall. These continually recurring flowers are a perfect reflection upon the purpose of their beautifying efforts. The flowers remind us that there will always be people who are compassionate and caring enough to spend their free time on a cold Saturday morning trying to make a small difference in the lives of others.
We truly believe that the garden will create a more welcoming environment for FECC children, families and clients. The garden effort was funded by a City Green Grant.
