For the past decade, the NJ Army Tank Pull has raised over $1.5 million to support veterans in need.
This event, run annually by the Knights of Columbus, was cancelled in 2020, but with the help of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson is returning. The Tank Pull will be held at 100 Clifton Avenue, in Clifton, New Jersey on Sunday June 13th, from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
The Tank Pull Challenge is a physical test of endurance, as competitors must make a determined effort to overcome the impossible odds of moving an immovable object – an 80,000 pound tank mounted on a flatbed truck. The clarion call for the competitor is take up the challenge and overcome the impossible!
Teams of up to 20 individuals from the corporate and nonprofit sector take part in this event. To date, 30 teams have registered for this special event.
“We are so proud to work with the Knights of Columbus this year in bringing back the Tank Pull. This is such a special event and a great way to say thank you to those who have served our great nation,” said Scott Milliken, Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson CEO.
The block-long event will be closed to traffic. Refreshments will be sold and entertainment provided. Representatives from various veterans groups from throughout New Jersey will also be set up at the event to promote awareness for their causes.
“This event is a great outdoor celebration of our country, our veterans and those who make a difference in their lives. With our communities and organization still feeling the impact of COVID-19, your support is needed now more than ever. The event is still open to new teams, corporate sponsorships and donations. Please do all you can to give back to our veterans,” said Chris Brancato, Catholic Charities Development Director.
Event proceeds will benefit Catholic Charities Veterans Services, which helps veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. In addition, this event will benefit the Independence Corps, Paramus Veterans Home, Clifton Cares, Clifton Veteran’s Association, Wreaths Across America, Semper Fi Odyssey, and the NJSOSVETS Women Veterans Committee.
“This event is a great chance to thank those men and women who fought for our flag and freedom. It is fitting the day after the challenge our nation will mark Flag Day. Let us show our support to veterans,” said John Hughes, event founder and co-chair.
