Catholic Charities has been providing help and creating hope for over 80 years in Paterson and beyond. Since our inception, St. Joseph’s Health has been by our side.
The bond between Catholic Charities and St. Joe’s is unique not just because of its tenure, but also because of it’s impact. St. Joe’s has helped all of our many ministries; from helping Veterans; to providing support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; to being a partner to Straight and Narrow, the largest drug and alchohol nonprofit treatment center in the country (located right accross the street from St. Joe's); and doing so much more.
On October 1st, St. Joseph's Health held a sustainable meal distribution event in which they gave out hundreds of cases of food to local area nonprofit organizations. The largest beneficiary was Catholic Charities, receiving 90 cases of meals.
"We are helping more people than any time in our 80 year history. Since the start of the COVID-19 we have given out over $2,000,000 to emergency funds to those most in need and have handed out over 1,000,000 pounds of food. We are giving out 5x’s more than what we normally do. Needless to say, these sustainable meals will make a great impact," said Carlos Roldan, Catholic Charities Director of Food Pantries.
Catholic Charities joined 8 other organizations/food pantries as beneficiaries that are helping combat food insecurity in Paterson.
"On behalf of Bishop Kevin Sweeney; Msgr Herbert Tillyer and the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees; and our 800 staff at Catholic Charities I would like to thank St. Joseph’s Health, the Health Coalition of Passaic County, Ken Morris, Kevin Slavin and Kimberly Birdsall for their support of not only Catholic Charities, but all of the great city Paterson. Thank you for assisting us to provide help and create hope for those most in need," said Scott Milliken, Catholic Charities CEO.
