The Marcal Paper Plant in Elmwood Park was largely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday January 30th.
This historic structure stood on the Passaic River in Elmwood Park. The Factory was one of the oldest and largest environmentally friendly paper companies in the United States.
Hundreds of firefighters assured that no one was hurt, bravely fighting the fire through below zero windchils. Sadly, hundreds of individuals are without a place of employment.
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson is here to answer the call. We were involved with a job fair held on February 5th and are here to help those in need. Special thanks to Dorian Restrepo from the Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs who partnered with us, and for all she does to help those in need.
If you or a loved one are an employee of Marcal, and are in need food, clothing, assistance with housing, or facing eviction we can direct you to the appropriate resources. Please call our Emerency Support line at 973-279-7100 ext. 2032. or email us at [email protected].
The Marcal Family is in our prayers during this difficult time.
