They have supported Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson, since our inception over 80 years ago.
Every council throughout the Diocese of Paterson has given to Catholic Charities in some capacity. They have donated food to our food pantries, have run winter clothing drives, have supported those in recovery, have given thousands of volunteer hours and have made a difference in the lives of many.
One of the Knights favorite ministries is supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Knights of Columbus not only conduct the “Tootsie Roll Drives” in their efforts to help people with intellectual and physical disabilities, but has also partnered with the Special Olympics since its founding along with with other programs, like our own Department for Persons with Disabilities.
Since DPD's inception, the Knights have given over $3,000,000 to our important ministry. They have also provided friendship to those we serve.
The Knights of Columbus Queen of the Lakes Council #5114 held a summertime barbecue on July 14th at the Department for Persons with Disabilities Wiegand Farm. They invited each of the individuals who live in DPD's residential programs to attend along with staff.
"I love being a Knight, and I love the Knights" said Anthony, a Knight of Columbus from St. Therese Council, who also celebrated his birthday with his fellow Knights in attendance. Anthony has been living at the Department for over 30 years.
