Throughout the last several weeks, Catholic Charities staff members, programs, and supporters have been honored at various events in the community. Congratulations and thank you to the following recipients for providing help and creating hope for those in need:
Board President, Rev. Msgr. Herbert Tillyer
April 4th – Assumption College for Sisters – Servant Leader Award
Msgr. Herbert Tillyer is the Pastor of Saint Peter the Apostle Parish in Parsippany and the Board President of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson. Monsignor Tillyer is the only person active within the Diocese of Paterson to serve on all three Catholic Charities Boards of Trustees. Msgr. Tillyer was honored for his service to the Church, community, and to Assumption College for Sisters Family.

Director of Pastoral Ministry, Community Programs and Volunteers, Sr. Maureen Sullivan
May 2nd – Connect for Community Outstanding Partnership Award
Connect for Community, based out of Sparta, provides food and toiletries to food pantries, soup kitchens, and social service agencies. Throughout the year, they support numerous causes including Catholic Charities' Father English Center, Hope House, and Partnership for Social Services Family Center. “This year's recipients, Carlos Roldan and Sister Maureen Sullivan, from the Father English Food Pantry and Catholic Family and Community Services in Paterson, make us better than we could ever been on our own,” said Suzanne Stigers, Executive Director. Carlos and Sr. Maureen were honored for their lifetime of service to the poor.
Anthony Iovine, Catholic Charities’ Walsh House
May 7th – New Jersey Association of Community Providers – Community Star Award
Anthony was honored along with other fine individuals, who happen to have intellectual and developmental disabilities, from throughout New Jersey. Anthony is often seen as DPD’s mayor when he is out in the community; greeting everyone he meets and everyone knows his name. Anthony is involved with the Knights of Columbus, Fight for the Right Community Service Group and is a staple at the Annual Wiegand Farm Golf Classic.
Development Director, Christopher Brancato
May 10th – Saint Mary’s High School, Rutherford – Distinguished Alum
Mr. Brancato has been a member of the Catholic Charities Family for the past 15 years. Prior to being appointed the Development Director for Catholic Charities last July, he served as Development Director for the Department for Persons with Disabilities for 7 years. Mr. Brancato (Class of 02) dedicated the award to his mother Jeanette, a cancer survivor who, on Christmas, received a life-saving bone marrow transplant, from a kind donor.
The Father English Community Center
May 18th – The Community Foodbank of New Jersey – Hunger as a Health Issue Award
The Father English Center helps thousands of people in need each week throughout Paterson.
Father English was honored with the Summit Medical Group Foundation and 6 other agency partners. This year, the Community Foodbank’s Blue Jean Ball focused on Hunger as a Health Issue and highlighted the importance of fresh produce and nutrition education in our work. Fr. English has worked with the Summit Medical Group Foundation to help combat diabetes through health screenings and nutritional education. Carlos Roldan, Director of Catholic Charities’ Food Pantries accepted the award on behalf of the Father English Center staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson, Legal Immigration Services
June, 2019 – American Psychiatric Association – Chester M. Pierce Human Rights Award
Catholic Charities provides assistance to immigrants throughout the U.S. including offering social and legal services to help immigrants in new communities throughout the Diocese of Paterson. The Chester M. Pierce Human Rights Award recognizes the extraordinary efforts of individuals and organizations to promote the human rights of populations with mental health
needs by bringing attention to their work.
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson, Department for Persons with Disabilities Support Coordination Program
June 13th – SCARC Inc. – Joseph Wehmeyer Distinguished Service Award
DPD’s Support Coordination program was honored with the SCARC Inc. Joseph Wehmeyer Distinguished Service Award for excellence in supporting persons with disabilities in Sussex County. This premiere program works with individuals and their families to help them reach their full potential and identify service providers and community supports. Throughout the last year, DPD has expanded their Support Coordination efforts to provide help for over 200 individuals and their families throughout Sussex County.

June 14th – Health Coalition of Passaic County – Inaugural Member Award
The Health Coalition of Passaic County (HCPC) honored Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson for being a founding member of the Coalition. The HCPC consists of local, county, state and private agencies who serve the residents of Passaic County.
