In 2017, there were 1,969 drug overdose deaths involving opioids in New Jersey—a rate of 22.0 deaths per 100,000 persons, which is 50% higher than the national rate of 14.6 deaths per 100,000 persons. Each day, Straight and Narrow works to save lives and combat this epidemic affecting all of our communities.
On April 9th, along with New Pathway Counseling, and Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, Straight and Narrow Hosted the first Break the Cycle Recovery Event at the Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne.
The event sought to inspire, empower, and motivate, those in recovery, families of those in recovery, professionals in the field and the entire community. Hundreds of guests attended this powerful presentation.
Passaic County Drug Court Judge, Miguel A. De La Carrera, presented to the crowd to kick off the evening, shining light on the state's Opioid Epidemic. Drug overdoses kill more individual than falling, guns and traffic accidents. The NJ Drug Court and community organizations like Straight and Narrow assist those in need to overcome drug dependencies.

In addition, the Straight and Narrow Choir graced the stage with powerful song. The choir, made up of members in recovery, performs throughout the state at various parishes and community events.
