Van Peenan Landscaping based in Wayne, NJ offered materials, tools and services to restore Straight and Narrow's garden nestled in the corner of the large parking lot on the corner of Straight Street and 20th Avenue. The Van Peenan staff, Tim Davis and Jesse Mawhinney, took special interest in the garden because they remember what it looked like when they were Halfway House clients several years ago.
O’Connor Hall Halfway House is designed to prepare men with substance use disorders for community integration as productive, contributing members of society. Each client is required to complete a series of developmental phases, each designed to prepare the client for community reintegration.
Ten skilled hard-working clients from the Halfway House and Long Term Residential volunteered all day Sunday, May 19th and joined forces with Van Peenan to clean and restore the garden. Phase one of the project included removing debris, pruning, weeding and repairing the wooded plant beds. The project will take another month to complete. In the meantime, Straight and Narrow clients are enjoying their breaks in this clean and peaceful sanctuary.
Thank you to Van Peenan Landscaping for their kindness and willingness to help!
