Born 75 years ago as a result of the refugee crisis that unfolded during WWII, Catholic Relief Services, the international relief and development agency of the United States Catholic Church, has since grown into one of the largest humanitarian aid agencies in the world while responding to some of the most devastating modern crises of our time.
To mark its 75th anniversary, CRS is holding events in dioceses across the country, culminating with an event later in November at its global headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. While the organization has grown to work in more than 110 countries and employs more than 7,000 people worldwide, its mission remains unchanged to act in solidarity with the world's most vulnerable people while leading the Catholic faithful in the United States in doing the same.
"This is a time when we celebrate all that we have accomplished over the past 75 years, and double down on our commitment to provide lifesaving and life-transforming assistance to some of the most disadvantaged people around the world, says Sean Callahan, CRS president and CEO, who became the agency’s eighth president last year.
"Through the years, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson has worked hand and hand with our sisters and brothers at Catholic Relief Services to help those around the world. Catholic Charities employees have traveled globally on CRS service trips, and we have proudly participated annually in the CRS Rice Bowl initiative. We are proud to stand in solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, both at home and abroad," says Scott Milliken, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson Chief Executive Officer.
